We couldn’t be prouder of our Jon Carkett as he recovers from completing his first (and possibly not last) Iron Man UK Triathlon, which took place in Bolton on Sunday 19th July 2015.
The course featured breathtaking views and a spectator-friendly course, where his wife Jo and two children Abi & Amy were waiting to cheer him across the finish line after this gruelling race.
An Ironman UK Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races consisting of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a full 26.2-mile (42.2 km) marathon run, raced in that order and without a break.
It is considered as one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world and our JC did himself, and all of us, proud yesterday as he undertook this challenge!
Most Ironman events have a strict time limit of 17 hours to finish the race. The race started early at 7:00am with the 2.4-mile (3.9 km) swim first and having to be completed in under 2 hours 20 minutes. Next up was the 112-mile (180.25 km) bike ride which needed to be completed in 8 hours 10 minutes. Finally Jon ran a FULL 26.2-mile (42.2 km) marathon which had to come in under 6 hours 30 minutes.
Any participant who manages to complete the triathlon within these timings becomes an Ironman and we couldn’t be prouder to share the news that he SMASHED it in 14.01 hours. You can see all the race results here - Jon came 209th in his age group rankings which is just outstanding.
Jon said this morning "Feeling on top of the world but aching all over. It's been an unbelievable experience and I am totally stocked with my ranking".
Massive well done Jon!
